Over Defense Objection, Plaintiff Can Compel Videotaping of Her Deposition

In a case of first impression, a New Jersey judge has ruled that a plaintiff can compel the videotaping of her own deposition, even if the deposing party opposes it. Superior Court Judge Rachelle Harz wrote that a plaintiff-driven recording does not run afoul of the state court rule governing videotaped depositions and that any party may videotape a deposition. She added that videotaping "has become an acceptable method of creating a deposition record and is widely embraced by the legal profession."

Artifacts from the Future: Bumper Stickers of 2018

: We imagine the bumper stickers you might see 10 years from now. Wired staffers created many of the stickers on a truck bumper and "weathered" them. They put the stickers on a rented Chevy truck, smeared dirt on and added more wear and tear in image post-production. We'll continue to create a new Artifact from the Future in upcoming issues of Wired magazine. But we'd like to see your prognostications too. What do you think our world will look like in 10, 20 or 100 years? Each month, we'll propose a scenario. Then it's up you: Sketch out your vision, then return here to upload your ideas, see other submissions and vote for your favorites. Check out this month's Happy Meal challenge. - - - The concept and many of the stickers came from Aaron Rowe, a contributor to the Wired Science Blog. Honda Working On Hybrid Bikes

Honda Working On Hybrid Bikes

Honda is currently developing a gas-electric motorcycle that will rely on a hybrid drivetrain, and this model might even hit showrooms within a couple of years time. Not much information is available concerning this Honda hybrid, but it will apparently be available in displacements ranging from a mere 50cc all the way to 1,000cc, with a 50% improvement in fuel economy - definitely a plus point in anybody's books considering the ever rising costs of fuel. Hopefully this technology will also be transferred into hybrid cars in the future. Unless you're a performance nut who is willing to sacrifice a little bit of the environment for your enjoyment, hybrid vehicles look set to take over the future.

Programming .NET 3.5

lamaditx writes "The world of the .NET framework is taken to the next level by the release of .NET 3.5. The intended audience of this book are experienced .NET programmers. There are no sections that tell you details about C#, SQL servers or anything like that. I don't recommend this book if you never worked on a .NET project and don't know how to set up a SQL database. You should be aware that the code is written in C#. You might use one of the software code converters if you prefer Visual Basic instead. I think the code is still readable even if you do not know C#. I appreciate the fact that the authors decided to use one language only because it keeps the book smaller. The authors assume you are using Visual Studio 2008. You don't necessarily need to update to 2008 if you are working with an older edition because you can use the free Express Edition to get started." Keep reading for the rest of Adrian's review.
